Goodbye Edge

While I will not be able to view WWEs flagship program RAW till tomorrow, I did in fact catch a major story developing out from tonight’s show

Edge has thrown in the towel

Now I wouldn’t normally post anything about superstars retiring, but Edge is quite special to me, for you see, he is one of three wrestlers that got me into professional wrestling

Those three were, 

Shawn Michaels

Randy Orton

And of course, Edge

The reason being was that these three outstanding wrestlers are the sole reason I got hooked onto the program.

Back in 2007, I decided to finally check out a episode of RAW after playing through the Smackdown V Raw game I had previously got for Christmas. For those keeping track, this was just when Triple H blew out his knee when taking on Rated RKO.

Now, the story was simple, Rated RKO had took out half of DX, and wanted to finish the job, so the next week, the entire show was built around this handicap match, and whether or not Shawn could survive it.

It featured some great segments, such as Flair and Hacksaw being taken out, and Shawn going crazy saying ‘if I’m going out, I’m going out in a BLAZE OF GLORY!”

The match itself however, featured quality storytelling

Shawn was busted open early, and couldn’t stop the attack of Edge and Orton, but just as Edge was about to deliver the con-chair-to, Shawn kick up, and started his comeback, which involved him pulling out the sledgehammer, and I swear I thought at the time he was being possessed by Hunter (though now I understand it as Shawn being one of the greatest of all time).

The show ended with Edge scrambling up the ramp, while Randy suffered a con-chair—to from Shawn, so while it was political justice, I was hooked into it, as these three men had just taken me on a hell of a ride

So after hearing that Edge has had to hang up the boots because of spinal injuries, I couldn’t help but feel a touch of sadness.

Thank you Edge, you where truly one of the best of all time, my only regret is that I only ever got to see you in action once.

Have you ever noticed on Q/As or message boards people complaining about how wrestling is today, saying that the old eras were better and cooler and such?

Funny that I swear they were saying that during the Attitude era, and Brett Harts era, and Hulk Hogans...

I see a pattern here

Look, there is no real point about bitching about what has come and gone, and what is going on right now, sure criticism is welcomed, but if you are just going to continue to compare eras, then please stop. It's getting on people's nerve.

Just sit back, and enjoy what you can.

The road continues to Survivor series

In a prelude to their match at survivor series, Wade Barrett and Randy Orton both picked tag partners (David Otunga and R-Truth respectively) to face off in the main event, and the twist? John Cena as the special guest referee.

The match served a verity of purposes which was done really well, it built up the WWE title match, gave Truth and Otunga a chance to shine. And added another layer to Cena’s inventible choice in 3 weeks.

I’m still looking forward to how this will all play out

Just being a smark here, but I’m envision two scenarios for this, One Barrett wins, then offers Cena a place in Nexus, in which he agrees, or two, Barrett wins, and being a man of his word, says Cena is no longer apart of Nexus, and that is because he is fired.

But hey, I’m not a booker so that s highly unlikely

Other thoughts to the show

Overall the show wasn’t bad, there was a fun matchup between Dibase and Daniel Bryan, in which Bryan won with a submission which was followed by Dibase saying (well screaming) after the match that he was going to break up the wedding (refereeing to the Goldust wedding taking place tomorrow night on NXT). There was a funny little video with Vince waking up from a coma after finding out Linda had spent 50 million dollars in her campaign ( Stephanie cameo FTW) and wait for it, a actual women’s wrestling match on Monday Night Raw

Clearly this is a sign of the fore coming doom!

Pee Wee segments where funny, I have no idea who he was, but hey, we got a Lita cameo and a verbal battle between him and the Miz, who once again held himself on the mike.

Was it really necessary to have Big Show (a smackdown star) to be on RAW? Couldn’t they have had Henry just come out and get a beat down? It’s not like they have any plans for him...

Truth seems to be getting a slight push, featuring in two backstage vignettes and the main event.  I’m willing to bet he’ll have a role in the story down the road

Santino was sub-par funny, after Sheamus beat Vladimir, Santino tried to buy him off, before Morrison made the save, more Morrison and less Santino would be great, I’m just saying

Oh look, THD are still fighting, I wonder if this leads to Uncle Brett coming back and motivating them to fight as a team again, nah that won’t happen.

On behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the WWE fans among our more than 2 million members and supporters, I'm writing to toss our name into the ring as yet another proponent of the push to bring back Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson). I might not personally carry the same clout as other Bryan supporters like John Cena or Shawn Michaels (although I do consider myself "The Showstopper of PETA"), but I am, along with many of my colleagues, a huge Daniel Bryan fan, not only because he humiliated the Miz and Michael Cole a few weeks back on Raw but also because he's vegan.

Lots of athletes, including baseball slugger Prince Fielder, the NBA's Raja Bell, MMA fighters K.J. Noons and Mac Danzig, and Olympic Legend Carl Lewis, show that vegetarians often leave meat-eaters in the dust, gnawing on their greasy chicken wings as they wonder what hit them. But Bryan represents the quintessential vegan badass. He knows that unlike WWE superstars, animals beaten to a pulp by the meat industry don't want to be there. The worst Hell in a Cell match is nothing compared to what animals in slaughterhouses go through, such as having their throats cut and being scalded alive and dismembered, often while still conscious. Even Mick Foley couldn't withstand that kind of abuse. Just by being vegan, Bryan saves more than 100 animals a year, a feat far more impressive than any of Jack Swagger's "accomplishments." Savvy athletes go vegan for the health benefits, too, as they slash their risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

So what do you say, Mr. McMahon? Bring back Bryan and let him prove that he belongs. And maybe there could even be a storyline romance between Bryan and the gorgeous vegan diva Tiffany! (Who, in your PETA fans' opinion, deserves another shot at Layla.)

If you havn't watched NXT yet, go on wwe.com, and look at Bryan Danielisons farewell video.

During it, he cut one fantastic promo, in which he abused the WWE machine and said he was kept down because of his size.

Simply before this week, I had my doubts about Daniel Bryan, but after this, I'm convinced he has all the ability (minus look) to become a main event player.

the internet all say he will just hit that glass ceiling like so many before him, but I say they are wrong. I say right here right now, Daniel Bryan will be a world champ. The IWC have been wrong on so many occasions (aka Miz) and they will be wrong today. Daniel bryan showed why he deserves that push, and WWE have shown how they are the king of storytelling. They don't back down on thier writing and change it as they go, they keep it simple and keep it to one point. god only knows what would have happened if Daniel went to TNA.

Why Smackdown needs RAW

My my it's been awhile

 

Lately I couldn't help but notice an ongoing debate among the internet community. That debate of course being whether WWE should or should not end the brand extension and just have one show. The Argument for that is one that the belts will be more preisgtoius, and there will be greater time to build up a feud. The argument against though is that a lot of guys will be pushed down and eventually out of the spotlight, leaving only a select few to be able to gain that valuable screen time

So what is the right answer? While there is none, I give you a theory which could dictate it.

Smackdown this week was a fantastic wrestling show. There were 2 very good bouts in a championship tournament, a good match between Kane and Swagger, The divas match wasn't half bad, a (once again) excellent promo from punk and Rey after following a hard hitting MVP/Gallows match, and to top it off, a very heated start to the show featuring Drew, Matt and Teddy.

But I couldn't help but wonder. If Smackdown was WWE's only show, how would they survive? After all if WWE were to book a PPV based on Smackdown, I willing to bet you wouldn't have the same Quality show you are having now.

Let's look at it, we had 5 matches over 2 hours, featuring roughly around 17 wrestlers, 5 of which feature in a stable. When you look at it, 17 wrestlers isn't a lot, especially when most of the rosters are mid carders.

However the most interesting concept about Smackdown is that, most of the superstars are only featured once in the show. Sure we had a recap of Drew attacking Hardy throughout the show, and we saw Kofi watching Christian wrestle, but in comparison to Raw, that's pretty light on angle building

On RAW, We has Sheamus appear twice, Batista appear in consecutive segments, Jericho twice and the Miz appearing 3 times! (Not that I'm complaining) not forgetting about wade Barret, Daniel Bryan, Morrison, R truth, Edge and Orton just to name a few. It total RAW had 20 superstars, with the former mentioned appearing in several segments

So why does Smackdown need RAW? Well for Smackdown to continue to produce these great wrestling shows, It simply need's RAW for the bulk of the entertainment and PPV storylines. Not to say Smackdown doesn't have those, But RAW has more segments to build upon these feuds.

But in that sense, RAW needs Smackdown. Smackdown is just a Pure wrestling Show, its format is very different from the one RAW uses. After all, Raw gets jam packed with segments, with several superstars featuring more than once throughout the program, with Smackdown usually having fewer segments with longer matches, the showcasing of wrestling.

This is why I believe each Brand needs each other. One for entertainment and one for wrestling. It is also the reason I don't believe in the brand extension ending, because simply Smackdown as whole would cease to exist

But hey what would I know? That's my opinion.

tommy dreamer recently posted a blog about ECW. in it he states how the XFL was doomed from the start. but he also goes on to metion how the XFL changed things in football today, such as the locker room camera.

however these dirt sheets left out that part

instead we got this

Tommy Dreamer posted a blog on the WWE Universe site concerning the end of ECW, specifically noting how the wrestlers tried to make WWE's version work, but over-riding factors made its demise inevitable.







"No matter how hard we all worked, it could never be what it was, for so many reasons, I do not want to get into," Dreamer wrote.

He then compared WWE's version of ECW to the XFL, which folded after one season.


"Well lets look at what the world likes to call the WWE's greatest blunder the XFL. It looked like a great idea on paper. It had great network support but after the first week and great ratings, those ratings started to fall. Why? I feel the level of play. Many die hard football fans realized that there was a reason the players were not in the NFL. Maybe they just did not belong."

now how can they call themselves a news site, if there not posting the full story?

they cannot, instead I sense a biased against the WWE. something that exist in nearly ever site nowdays.

unless this trend is to stop, these sites will just continue to hurt WWE image. these sites do more damage than good

If you haven’t heard already, This week we saw the last episode of the new ECW, as next week it will be replaced by NXT.

Most online fans are actually happy with this move, stating that it wasn’t the real ECW, it wasn’t hardcore enough, wasn’t as edgy and certainly didn’t have the prestige it once had.

True some of the above statements are factual. But it depends how you look at it.

Were currently in the PG family era of wrestling, hardcore wrestling died somewhat 8 years ago, and in today’s world, the old ECW just would not survive.

But to say that the new ECW needed to be like the old is wrong. ECW was all about being different, and it still was. It wasn’t Smackdown or RAW, it was ECW. Were you saw actual wrestling and young guns getting a start in WWE. ECW gave the likes of Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston a start, while veterans like Goldust and Regal proved they were still valuable. In fact Goldust hasn’t looked this good in years. And it’s really all thanks to the structure of this show.

I truly believe Tommy Dreamer sums it up in his blog what this show was –“Well lets look at what the world likes to call the WWE's greatest blunder the XFL. It looked like a great idea on paper. However everyone wants to knock Vince McMahon for the XFL, but look at this many aspects of the XFL have been stolen by the NFL. The field camera view. The behind the scene lockeroom stuff. Having the viewer be almost on the field at all times, was what the XFL was all about. The NFL Network and every channel that carries football now does what that XFL tried to bring. So instead of blaming Vince. He deserves some credit for shaping the NFL the way it is today. As well as having the grapefruits for taking on the task.If you think about it Vince McMahon's vision good or bad has us all talking about his actions.”

This could not be any truer. ECW showed us that you could never count a wrestler out if he or she has hit the wall. It showed us that young superstars can in fact run with the ball if you chose to give it to them, and it showed us just how great a simplistic wrestling program can be.

I truly hope this isn’t the last ECW, maybe one day it will come back. Who knows? Maybe as the original hardcore wrestling program. Or maybe as a show which gave people a chance.

Either way it will be missed. And those who wanted it to end will wish they never said that

Lately the internet can only seem to talk about one thing, TNA and hulk Hogan. Or is that two things? Look the point is that the vibe going around is that Hogan sucks blah blah blah, going to ruin TNA etc.

But that’s just the view from people that follow wrestling.

What I did to get a perspective on the matter, was to ask someone who was in marketing and sales, about this situation and if what Hogan is doing (which is having only two PPVs away from the impact zone and reducing the total number of house shows) is the right thing to do.

And the answer shockingly was yes

That’s right, Hogan and Eric are doing the right thing. Wanna know why?

Smark- “No! I’m right because I’ve been watching wrestling all my life and can do a better job than Vince can cause he knows nothing about wrestling Cena sucks screw all you noobs we want attitude era back!!!!!!”

Anyway the reason is ..... Test marking

That’s right, it’s what successful business’s use when they want to test a new product or expand into a new market. Key word here is expand.

What people forget is that for a major wrestling company, the majority of their income would come from PPV and TV. And not from house shows as a lot of these arm chair critics like to think (want an example? Go to rajah.com and look up john report). So Hogan goes and looks at TNA’s record of house shows, how the bleed money because they can never fill up an area, demoraliser’s their roster because they didn’t even draw enough fans to fill half the arena, and most of all, just adding fatigue onto their wrestler’s.

Sure TNA have a light schedule compared to the WWE, but every match is a risk or getting injured, and if you’re not selling out a show, why bother risking your talent.

So instead Hogan looks at it this way, reduce the amount of shows and PPV outside the Impact zone, and focus on making the product better. Take all their energy away from these shows and put it into making a better show for the audience. As I said, their money is made from PPV and TV.

So let me bring you back into this idea of test marketing, TNA will most likely only do two shows outside the impact zone in America this year. So as a business man, what would you think if your two biggest shows of the year did not sell out the arena? Simply you wouldn’t waste your time putting on these lesser shows in the same area. Instead you would wait until your product is better, and more recognised around the country before you take that risk.

And that is what Hogan is doing, he is putting most of TNA show’s on in a studio where it is free to film, is guaranteed an audience every night, and is regardless of what people think, different from their competitor’s look and feel.

The main argument against what Hogan is doing is that TNA will continue to look like the minor leagues by staying in the Impact zone, but contrary to that statement, I’d rather a full arena of 500 people than an half empty one with 2000. The impact zone is one of the things that make’s TNA unique, people should be wary of that, furthermore they should be weary of the fact that if TNA were to film outside of the impact zone, they would look worse than before.

So from this moment now, TNA are taking educated risks, instead of blind ones like before

And that is why Hogan is right.

a few weeks ago, kizarny (however you spell it) said in a interview that he's time in the WWE was terrible and was backstabed blah blah blah you get the picture

however thats not the intersting side

most if not all of the wrestling dirtsheets reported ONLY the neagtive side of the interview, when in fact a real wrestling website the sun (ok thier a real magizine but who cares) actually reported on the full interview, were it turns out that kizarny prasied wwe and knocked them at the same time

now not only does this show how this so call dirtsheets lack substance, but moreover it shows that if you want true wrestling news, theres only a few sites out there to provide it.

wow what a week this is going to be

first of all the sad news that eddie fatu has passed away, its always a great shame when someone of his talent dies at such a young age, my wish's go out to his friends and family

and on another topic, hulk is really up to his tricks isn't he?

If you havn't heard already, TNA will be airing a 3 hour live show on... wait for it... MONDAY NIGHT.
no not this monday night, jan the third. anyway it is a huge risk for the company and hopefully (in my mind) it will pay off. only problem I have is that fact its IN THE BLOODY IMPACT ZONE!

Difference in extreme

I had originally set out to write this article on the superiority of the new ECW over the old ECW, while I’m a fan of hardcore matches occasionally, I much prefer the technical ones as opposed to the brutality hat involves hardcore wrestling.

However while browsing the internet as I usually do, I came across an article in the SUN newspaper. The sun has a huge wrestling column, and often they would catch up with wrestlers and have exclusive interviews, this one however was one with Rob Vam Dam

Rob Vam Dam describes how his heart was torn out by Vince when he changed the original ECW to the old ECW, showing disrespect to a cult which was still going. And as I continued reading I began to realise something.

As Jericho would say, both ECW’s where the best at what they do.

Sure there two completely different versions of each other, but the core elements of what they strive to achieve remains the same.

The old ECW was about being different, they weren’t mainstream, they didn’t care about what you think or who they offended, they just did what they wanted, and got a cult like following. They brought Lucha Libra to the states, they were the catalyst for the attitude era, they invaded Monday night RAW, and most of all were a footstep for future superstars, such as stone cold, Mick Foley, Eddie, Rey, Chris Benoit, and Chris Jericho.

The original ECW was something that could possibly be never seen again, a once in a life time promotion which just happened to come to fruition at the right place at the right time.

And then we have the new ECW, the stress relief if someone gets pissed on the internet.

Look people the new ECW may not be like the old one, but it still is a dam good product. We get every week a mixture of veterans and new superstars in matches which are usually high in quality. Why are they usually high? Because WWE can give away these matches without having to worry about putting it on PPV. After all it gets a third of the rating RAW gets. So why not?

The new ECW is always a great watch (minus the Abraham show) and really it only targets a certain audience anyway, much like the old ECW, expect this time it’s for those who have the great love of a good technical match.

So while the new ECW may be a family friendly place, it is currently the best at what it does, it may not be the old ECW, but it’s moved on from that. Hardcore wrestling isn’t for everyone, WWE is about pleasing the masses, and unfortunately that’s where ECW had to move on to. Where in the family friendly era of WWE and the old ECW style would be out of place.

However that saying the ECW still embodies the spirit of the old, veterans getting a second wind, news talent looking for a break, matches that are borderless

And that my friends, is extreme.

Anywho I’m here today to put down the buzz surronding Hulk Hogan and TNA.
but first lets see what PWI have to say about this to futher my point first

Alright. Let’s start out this week’s edition of “The Turn” with a little game. Everyone who didn’t have the worst and most publicly humiliating week in the industry, take one giant step forward. Not so fast, Jeff Jarrett.

Wow. Wowy, wow, wow, wow. Soooo … who saw that one coming? I will readily admit that I was certainly not expecting TNA to Mahoney-up and make, easily, the biggest move in company history on a down week in October. But, alas, the legend of legends Hulk Hogan now calls the Impact Zone his home away from home, and he’ll be bringing perennial houseguest Eric Bischoff with him.

No way this can fail, right? I mean, Hogan has never been known to allow his infinitely expanding ego to disrupt a promotion. No, if there’s one man who puts the good of the organization ahead of his own, it’s Hogan.

Sarcasm aside, my first instinct when I heard the news was to quit giving TNA CPR and call the time of death, but that seemed too easy. While the odds may be stacked against a Hogan-Bischoff led (oh, and don’t let “reports” fool you—they’ll be in charge) TNA winning over enough fans to reach WWE levels, I’m not ready to pronounce the organization as WCW-lite. In fact, Hogan coming back to wrestling could be the best thing that ever happened to jackasses like me.

It’s one thing to kill TNA on a weekly basis for not making the most of its situation or allowing the same guys to trot out to the ring and give the same schlocky promos; add Hogan to that situation and it basically sets me up for years to come. Hell, I started a college savings fund the day TNA announced Hogan’s signing because I knew TNA would keep me knee deep in topics.

For example, what is the current line on how long it takes Hogan to win the TNA World title? My guess is that he’s there three months before capturing the gold. Another thing to look forward to is the first “major acquisition” Hogan helps bring in (we’re betting on Ken Anderson), as well as the first, former “major acquisition” to hit the bricks.

A Hogan-run TNA promises not only controversy each and every week, but hours of head-scratching storylines and angles. Hell, I am genuinely excited to see where this goes.

Oh, please don’t confuse my excitement with an endorsement of the move. Dear God, no, I don’t think it’s a good idea in the least and I’m certainly not a fan of Hogan, Bischoff, or Kevin Arnold’s big brother Jason Hervey. All three disappoint me in ways that I could not possibly fit into a 1,000-word column. I’m looking at this through the eyes of an auto racing fan: a phenomenal crash is far, far more entertaining than a safe victory.

As I alluded to in the opening, it’s easy to think that Jeff Jarrett is having the worst week of anyone in the business right now. After everything he gave to TNA over the years, to have the higher-ups bring in Hogan and Bischoff at a time where he is persona non grata around the arena has to be devastating. With no other options in the industry aside from TNA, what choice does Jarrett have other than to stay the course and try to work his way back into Dixie Carter’s good graces? That, my friends, is the essence of the 1990s expression, “Sucks to be you.”

In the end, I applaud TNA for going so far against the grain that it likely ended the company’s viability before it ever really took foot. Plus, I want to thank them for giving me a front-row seat to the slow and glorious demise of the organization’s credibility; an organization, mind you, that once called Adam “Pacman” Jones a champion.

I thank you, my kid’s future university thanks you, and fans around the world thank you, TNA.

look as much as people would love to go back to the monday night wars… it’s not going to happen. period.

TNA isn’t declaring war against WWE, they arn’t bringing in stone cold steve austin, and they certainly are not just letting Eric and hogan promote (I give hogan 2 months before being champ. the 2 months starting once he debuts in the 6 sided ring), They are simply trying to cash in on a publcity gold mine.

And about that second show? sure we would all love for another 2 hour show to run up against RAW, but that’s a long way away, no people it’s more likly to be a ECW type of show, 1 hour and most likly an all knockout show.

hell why put up a second show against RAW if the first one cannot even get above 2.0 in ratings?! raw always does 3-4, so why whould in good sense, spike allow TNA to put one up?
the only reason I can think of is so when people don’t like what they see on RAW, or a commerical they change the channel, and then instanly remember why they watch RAW. (oh snap)

look the point I am making is that people shouldn’t start these rumers or jump to conculsions, TNA is a long long long way away from ever being considered competition for WWE, but I’m sure one day they will make it, or we will see them on wwe mobile in 5 years.

Anyway hulk hogan was doing the rounds on TV and the Papers. quote 'wwe have this mindset to push young guys even though fans want to see hulk hogan. thats why I'm doing this tour' he also said on the kerry ain show that he was surpised at Aussies fans reaction to him and how he is really pumped for this show

Jeff Hardy has been arrested on charges of trafficking in controlled prescription pills and possession of anabolic steriods, according to a report on thepilot.com.

A search of Hardy’s home in Cameron, N.C., yielded significant quantities of Vicodin and Soma prescription pills, anabolic steroids and a residual amount of cocaine. He was charged with felony trafficking in opium, two counts of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling to keep controlled substance, felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $125,000.
